Activity Details

01

Fire Safety

Bedford-Stuyvesant has a high rate of residential fires, while Crown Heights does not. Help make the community safer by staffing a mobile, fire safety demonstration vehicle & helping to distribute free alarms & detectors. Partners: FDNY, Red Cross

04

Employment

Our hardworking communities have pockets of deep unemployment. This is related to the high proportion of residents struggling to move past criminal convictions. Help educate local merchants about the Ban the Box law, which gives New Yorkers with criminal histories a fair chance at getting a job. Partner: NYC Human Rights Commission

05

Data Workshop

Reliable data can help us understand community needs and strengths. Bring your laptop to explore an incredible online tool for learning about Crown Heights, BedStuy & all of NYC. Explore statistics on health topics such as lead poisoning, sugary drink consumption & alcohol related hospitalizations; environmental topics, such as tons of trash produced and unsanitary condition complaints & much, much more, according to your interests & concerns. Partner: Data2Go

06

Participatory Budgeting

Residents or D36 have suggested & developed 12 proposals for improving schools, libraries, parks & streets (http://labs.council.nyc/districts/36/). Now it's time to vote on which of these projects will be funded. $1.1 million is in your hands! Bring ID or mail to show you live in the district. Partners: NY City Council, The Participatory Budgeting Project

05

Resource Fair

The resource fair is our chance to come together, gather resources and learn about other valuable projects & important issues.
